Stop Blaming Others for Your Lack of Success
I recently read this article from Tim Denning, where he describes the BS behind Never Meet Your Hero.
This got me thinking: we live in a space where we blame everything on something other than ourselves.
We love to point fingers when things don't go our way.
It's the economy
it's the government
it's our upbringing
it's the haters holding us back
But here's the cold, hard truth: Your success or failure is on you.
No one else.
It's time to wake up and take some damn responsibility.
The Myth of the Perfect Mentor (And Why It's Holding You Back)
I get it. We all want that wise sage to show us the way, to give us the magic formula for overnight success.
So we latch onto our heroes, gurus, and role models, hanging on their every word.
But guess what? They're human too.
They have flaws, make mistakes, and don't have all the answers. Shocking, I know.
When they inevitably let us down, it's so tempting to throw up our hands and say "They're all frauds!"
But this victim mentality is toxic to your success.
You Are the Captain of Your Own Damn Ship
Your heroes and mentors can inspire you, sure.
They can share valuable lessons and insights.
But at the end of the day, YOU are in the driver's seat of your own life.
Stop waiting for someone to hand you a roadmap.
Stop blaming others when you veer off course.
YOU are responsible for charting your path, making tough choices, and dealing with obstacles.
Will you make mistakes? Absolutely.
Will there be setbacks and failures? 100%.
But that's all part of the journey.
Embrace it
learn from it
keep pushing forward
Newsflash: Everyone Has Their Own Agenda (Even Your Guru’s)
Here's another hard truth: Everyone, even your gurus, has their own interests and agenda.
They're not saints altruistically devoted to your personal development.
Maybe they're selling a course, pushing an ideology, or just stroking their own ego.
It doesn't make them evil; it makes them human.
So by all means, soak up their wisdom and insights.
But always view it through a critical lens.
Take what resonates and leave the rest.
You do YOU.
The No-Bullshit Guide to Achieving Success
So if you can't just follow in your heroes' footsteps, what CAN you do?
It's simple: Take massive action.
Experiment
Fail forward
Course correct
Repeat
Your success comes down to the unglamorous daily grind, not which guru you follow on Instagram.
It's on you to do the hard work of leveling yourself up day after day after day.
Stop making excuses.
Stop waiting for the perfect mentor or opportunity.
Take relentless action and bet on YOURSELF.
You Are the Damn Hero of Your Own Story.
Act Like It.
The world doesn't owe you anything.
Your heroes owe you nothing.
But YOU owe it to yourself to take agency and make shit happen.
So next time you catch yourself slipping into the blame game, remember: You are the hero of your own story.
Act like it.
